PROJECTS

Here's just a small sampling of the projects we've performed over the years.

Phagocytosis

Scanning electron microscope image of a primary small airway epithelial cell (black and white surface) performing phagocytic engulfment of apoptotic eosinophils (pseudo-coloured red).

Apoptotic Eosinophil imaged using transmission electron microscopy. The image clearly shows nuclear condensation of the normally bi-lobed eosinophil nucleus.

H Ficolin binding to the type II alveolar adenocarcinoma cell line, A549.

Dietary Isothiocyanates

Derived from cruciferous vegetables like broccoli dietary isothiocyanates have a burgeoning research portfolio. Primarily people have studied sulforaphane as an anti-cancer therapeutic at levels far above dietary attainable levels. We are assessing the immunomodulatory effects of several isothiocyanates, including sulforphane, at levels which can be found in the blood after eating a 100g of broccoli.
